Natural Fleece, Autumn and Spring shear
We shear our Gotland sheep twice a year, in the Autumn and in the Spring.
This is because if we leave the fleece on for the whole year it can become matted and unworkable. When we shear twice a year we get two different fleeces off the same sheep.
The Autumn fleece is grown over the Summer and is open and has a more defined curl, it is soft and silky with very little fluff. The Spring fleece is grown over winter, it has a less defined curl, but is fluffy and downy, this keeps the sheep warm over the winter.
